Environment day in Carmel English School, Nanjangud was celebrated on June 5th to create awareness among the students about the importance of protecting the environment. The programme began with a prayer service and planting a sapling by Headmistress. The st udents of class 5 ,under the guidance of Tr Deepa presented a short programme which included speeches, slogans, dance and short skit which highlighted environmental issues and the need of sustainability . The occasion was graced by the Headmistress Sr Dorin Jacques, Assistant Headmistress Sr Renita Baretto AC , Sr Maria Lorna and Sr Neeta Maria. Headmistress addressed the students about how to build a cleaner, greener nature and to restore the planet by saving water, planting trees, avoiding plastics and by conserving electricity. To raise global awareness among students she assigned the students an activity of planting a sapling with their family. This activity instills a sense of responsibility towards nature. A pledge was taken by the students to protect the nature and reduce pollution. The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks. The programme was not only informative and educational ,but also helped in motivating students to become responsible citizens' .
