As a part of the International Day of the Girl Child 2025 , Carmel English School Nanjangud in collaboration with Taluk Legal Service committee association organised a Legal Awareness Programme to empower girls with knowledge about their rights POCSO , driving licence and mobile usage awareness. The programme began with a prayer led by the students followed by a warm welcome by Assistant Headmistress Sr Renita Baretto AC . The session was anchored by Tr Moksha and Tr Rashma who guided the proceedings with enthusiasm. After the welcome ,the guests - Mr Kamalaksha D , Senior Civil Judge and president. Taluk Legal Service committee, Nanjangud -Sri Sathish K G , senior civil judge and member Secretary, Taluk Legal Service commission, Nanjangud. - Srimathi Saritha Kumari A M ,First Additional civil judge . - Kumari kruthika P Pawar , Second additional civil judge - Sri Mahesh Atthikhane Senior Advocate and Assistant Professor , Nanjangud - Srimathi Ashwini R , Senior Advocate , Nanjangud. - Sri Mahadeva swamy , President , Taluk Advocates Association , Nanjangud. - Sri Kemparaju , Vice - President , Taluk Advocates Association , Nanjangud. - Sri M K Basavanna , Secretary , Taluk Advocates Association, Nanjangud - Sri Chinnaswamy , Additional Public Prosecutor , inaugurated the programme with the Headmistress Sr Dorin Jacques AC by lighting the lamp symbolizing the light of awareness. The chief guest Mr Kamalaksha D addressed the students, emphasizing that mobile phones are one of the main reasons for offenses in children highlighting the social issues, significance of understanding child rights and tge provisions of the POCSO( Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) act. He explained how the law is designed to safegaurd children from exploitathon . Mr Mahadev swamy ,in his speech spoke about the behaviour and conduct of children in society and the laws related to Juvenile behaviour through interesting examples. Mr Mahesh Atthikane enlightened the students with a detailed talk about the rights of children and the need to protect them from exploitation . He explained that every child has the right to education ,safety and dignity. He discussed the importance of following traffic rules and obtaining a driving license only after reaching legal age.He explained about the Rowdy act and anti ragging Law warning that ragging in schools is a serious offence. Smt Ashwini R addressed the students on important legal issues related to children's safety and welfare. She spoke about the Prohibition of Child marriage, explaining that marriage below the legal age is a punishable offence under the Prohibition of Child marriage act and the concept of child justice and the need to safeguard children from all forms of exploitation .She highlighted the role of the POCSO act in ensuring the safety and dignity of children . After the enlightening sessions by the guest speaker, the Headmistress Sr Dorin Jacques expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all the dignitaries for their valuable messages. She appreciated their efforts in creating awareness among the students about various child related laws. She assured that the school would continue to emphasize discipline, respect for law and Moral values among the students. She guided the children to follow the rules and never engage in any act that violates the law and to nurture as a well disciplined and law abiding citizens for the future. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Assistant teacher Mr Mahadev prasad who expressed gratitude to all the dignitaries, guests and participants for their valuable presence. He thanked the management, staff and students for their cooperation in making the programme a successful one. The event came to an end with the National Anthem filling the atmosphere with a sense of pride and patriotism.
